Youtube's the best, esp. when people pirate entire movies and I get to watch High School Musical 2 3 whole days early. Doesn't mean I'm still not stoked to relive the wnole amazing thing!

It's weird, the first few times I watched the Breakfast Club, it wasn't my favorite John Hughes movie, but I watched it again just now, and I LOVE it. I think it's because before I thought it was just trying a little too hard to be deep (that bugs me sometimes), but seriously, watching it again, it's so universal and relatable. Why didn't I see that before? Plus, I don't think they usually make High School Movies that are rated "R" (American Pie aside), but that way it's more realistic. Anyway, just thought I'd get that out there.

Oh, and it's June 29th, why is it raining?

So, remember yesterday when I said I would take any job I could find? Yeah, revision:

Today I babysat for 8 hours for the spawn of satan, and I'm going tomorrow from 6:30 in the morning to 6 at night. Here are some choice verbs and phrases from my incident. Spank, Punch in crotch, Slap in Face, Headbutt in Stomach, Headbutt in nose, Pull down pants, Pull down shirt to look, fart in face, follow me into bathroom and refuse to leave, Gain momentum by starting in the next room and bodycheck me full speed. Repeat for 6 hours accompanied by a continual shriek I can only compare to a dog whistle. I came home, ate 4 waffles and the rest of Reed's ice cream cake, and then cried. I'm never having children.

I thought I was relatively good with kids, all of my other clients have liked me, and I've always been invited back. So, I thought today would be no sweat. Keep in mind this was one 6 year old boy. His 8 year old sister will be present tomorrow. This could have a calming effect, or could just exasterbate the situation. I really tried to be firm, I did, but I didn't feel like pulling out the big guns with a little kid I just met, since I'm completely unaware of the house rules. His parent's are divorced, and it was at his Dad's house, so hence more preplexing. Plus, the stupid brat (pardon my language) doesn't like to watch movies (I really tried to keep him active, you know, tire him out, but he was like the freakin' energizer bunny and television was a last resort) and isn't allowed to watch Sponge Bob, or so he claims...his whole freakin' room is Sponge Bob, his underwear, his piggy bank, his video game...wtf. I should have paid attention better during child development. Tomorrow, oh yes, their will be timeouts. Mark my words...I have a new found respect for Ms. Leslie Byerly and all of you nannies out there...you're a better person than I'll ever be.

It all started because the kids' normal nanny was in a car accident, and so, depending on her condition, I may have to go in next week as well. If I was one to pray...

Basically, I've crossed child care off of my list of acceptable summer jobs, so think of me tomorrow morning as I drive to my fate at 5:40 in the morning, and know that someday, contreceptive companies will be making a lot of money off of me.

    Close to patricide...
So, I've become rather discouraged at the state of my life these past few weeks. Basically I'm having my teenage angst/parental conflict stage late. I hate it. I want to be back in McMinnville NOW. I have so much more of a life there.

Here's a list of places I've applied. Note that I've only gotten an interview at ONE PLACE, and that was because it was an open one that happened to be taking place while I was turning in my application. What's wrong with me?

    Applications placed/resumes turned in at:

    -DSW
    -Regal Cinemas
    -Anthropologie
    -Crate & Barrel
    -Banana Republic
    -Shoefly
    -Hollywood
    -Blockbuster
    -Safeway
    -The Container Store
    -Wizer’s
    -Grapevine
    -Urbane Zen
    -Petco
    -McCormick & Shmick’s
    -Village Inn
    -Lucy Boutique
    -Tutto Bene
    -Oswego Lake Country Club
    -Pastini’s Pasteria

    TOTAL = 20

Plus, I drove around for 2 and a 1/2 hours on Monday going door to door at other random places around town, and have spent at least an hour or two on Craig's List sifting through the classified ads. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?!?!?!?!

I guess what really makes this unbearable is not even the fact that I don't have a source of income independent of my mother and father, or the fact that I'm bored out of my mind for most of the day (besides when I see my friends, but then again, my friends have a life, so that leaves a lot of time unoccupied), but the fact that, according to my father, I'm not making an effort. He is gone all day, he gets a report from my mother and then he forms this opinion level of my effort. And then he lectures. A lot. On top of this, my mother has now chosen to pass judgement on everything I do and impose I didn't even have when I was 16.

For instance, I not only have a curfew, I have a BEDTIME. She's decided to put me on an exercise plan, and speaks in a consistently perturbed tone like my presence is giving her a migrane. I asked her at dinner the other day why she has to continue to lecture me even though her point has been made crystal clear, and she went on a twenty minute rant about my aforementioned lack of an effort in my continuing search for a job. I'm a slacker, I apparently have no redeeming qualities, and I'm really not welcome in my home. According to her I'm always out being social and not being productive. Well I'm sorry Mom, I guess I'm mistaken on what summer's for. Now, everytime I go out, she asks me if I have the money to do that. Subtle, subtle.

Another thing. We don't have 3 cars, we have 2, one during the day when my dad's at work, and so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a ride during this time, or I think at least the request doesn't warrent her perturbed-migrane tone. Why yes, I would drive myself, but you said I couldn't take the car because you might need it later, driving me home should have been a consideration. During this car time, the tension is palpable, and I'm reminded that "your father is going to go crazy if you sit in your room all summer and watch movies." I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that I was doing that, as I recall I was watching movies at night, and most business, or at least their managers would not be open or available at 10 o'clock at night.
Basically my parents are being ridiculous and I'm beginning to hate life. I stay in my room when I'm at home for fear of having my head bitten off anytime I move "can you be eating that? should you be spending that money? shouldn't you be in bed?" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I have two jobs at school, next term I'll make over $500 a month, I'm at school for 9 months, I'm at home for 3. This seasonal unemployment sounds like less of a crisis than their making it out to be. My actual concern is GETTING OUT OF HERE.

Basically, this release was needed, but I've developed a headache, feel queasy and am bordering on an emotional breakdown right now, so I'll stop. If ANY of you know of ANY places hiring for the summer, please, PLEASE let me know. Kudos if you actually read this. Peace.

    why I love John Mayer...
    and I quote:

"If a guy is wearing any kind of hat let me tell you, it better be sitting straight on his head, because the degree a guy's hat is turned from the center is relative to how much of a dick he is."

Oh, also he can play the guitar like none other, that might have something to do with the fact that I find him extremely attractive despite his creepy creepy eyes.

AHHHHHH why will no one call me back for jobs!?!?!?!?! Also, why is it raining?!?!?! Depressing.

So, I'm home...and I really don't want to be here. I have to find work and I've been here for 5 minutes and my mom's already nagging me, and I'm going to have a curfew, and AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I miss my independence already (whatever independence came from the "real world" of Linfield...that's okay, I'm used to living in bubbles), and I really really really miss my friends. Basically college is going by too fast.

On a happier note, however, I would love to see all of you Lovely LO people sometime (or several times, actually) over the next three months, so you should call me!

Oh, and next week is a John Mayer concert at the Clark County amphitheater and I might possibly get tickets! BAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!JOHN MAYER!!!! Now there's a way to start your summer off right!

Where I want to be in a year....
So, next year I will hopefully abroad for the month of January, so here's my top three choices for classes:

1: COM 498 International Communication: British Mass Media
    Professor William Lingle
Spend January immersed in British mass media and popular culture. Visit newspaper and magazine offices, television production centers, media-related museums and libraries and historical sites. Hear invited guests discuss radio, films and media issues. Trips outside of London (Oxford, Manchester, Edinburgh, York) and to major tourist sites. Understand British media systems by experiencing British culture.
*This is in Europe, with my major, with my faculty advisor, and Emily will be there at the same time! Con: I've talked to some of the girls on the floor and they all want to go to, but realistically I had to assume that pop culture class in London would be a popular choice. I just am crossing my fingers that my application stands out, and that they'll take into account the fact that it's my field of study, so I might get more out of it than some others. This being said, if all of my friends get in and I do to, that would be a blast!

2:ENG 398 Samuel Johnson and Eighteenth Century London
    Professor Kenneth J. Ericksen
A study of Samuel Johnson's writings--novel, poetry, essays, dictionary--with visits to the various places associated with Johnson's life including the house in London where he lived while writing his dictionary of the English language, lunch at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, the oldest pub in London and where Johnson met with his friends to discuss literature and politics, St. Paul's Cathedral where a heroic statue of Johnson stands in the left Transept, the Tower of London with the Crown Jewels, the Monument remembering the Great Fire of 1666, etc. The class will also see modern London including the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Westminster Abbey, Harrods Department Store, the Eye of London. The course will be spending three weeks in London and one week touring the countryside in Stratford and near Lichfield, Johnson's birthplace. The class will be attending three plays as part of the course--two in London and one in Stratford.
*London, Emily, helps with my English minor, get to see plays!

3:REL/HST 298: Religions of Carthage and Rome
Professor Bill Millar and Professor Beverly Berg
This course focuses on religious continuity and change in Tunisia and Italy during antiquity and the early centuries of Christianity and Islam. The course begins in Carthage with its Canaanite divinities before the Roman conquest. In Tunisia, participants will see the remains of cities founded on Carthaginian soil with mixed Roman, Punic, and Berber populations where hybrid gods such as Saturn-Baal were worshiped. Following Augustine (4th century CE) the course will leave his native North Africa for Italy, and see Milan where Augustine converted to Christianity, Ostia where he discussed the life hereafter with his mother Monica, and Rome where he taught
rhetoric. The final week is spent in Rome to study sites ranging from the remains of the earliest temple to the goddess of Dawn to churches of the Renaissance. Throughout the course, discussion will focus on how Rome and Carthage were central to the spread of Christianity and Islam as these two major faiths competed for control of the Mediterranean.
*Okay, so my cousin spent Christmas in Tunisia and it wasn't her favorite place, but Rome and Milan would be amazing, and I've read about the history before, so I find it pretty interesting. History is my other minor, and Tunisia is where they freaking filmed Star Wars, how could you NOT want to go ;)!

Opinions? Money is a concern, because the airfare is paid, but then it's $4000 which will most likely be earned by yours truly this summer. It seems worth it though, right? Geez, I've been saying that I've wanted to do this for a while, but now that I have the application, I'm really excited. I really hope I get in (knock on wood), stay tuned!

Last night I saw Titanic for the first time (something I got a lot of crap for) and I got really overly-sentimental and cried actually pretty hard at the end, when all of my other friends who were watching it for like, the 17th time, were just laughing. I don't know why, either I was completely fine when everyone was dying, but (don't read if you haven't seen it) when Rose dies in her sleep and the ship comes back to life and she meets Jack at the top of the stairs and they kiss and everyone claps and they're finally together after 84 years, it sent me over the edge. I also saw American Psycho, and that was just fucked up.

I'm really sick. It was embarassing sitting in my finals yesterday holding a kleenex to my face and making that lovely sucking noise with my nose that is resemblant of a duck call. And, I couldn't take my Nyquil that I finallly got to the store to buy, b/c I had taken Tylenol earily and didn't want to die. Fun...

Finals are done and just in time!!!!! I discovered that Katrina had been eating more of my food (seriously, my mom sent a pack of 8 biscotti and 7 were gone) and since I have control issues with that, it took all of me to just let in go- good thing there's are BREAK!!!! Anyways I come home today for 2 weeks, so yay!!!!!

Emily, I'm thinking we need to see Babel, since it got 7 golden globe nominations and all. And the Departed did well too (yessss)!!!

I NEED to get out of here. People are having mood swings because the cupholders broke in their car (and then they blame me even though I didn't do it!!!!) and then when I ask to borrow American Psycho they say no, they paid for it, that's not fair, and so when I say I'll pay for half they still say no, that's not fair and then I ask when they're going to watch it and they say "I don't know", then they call someone else and I yell "can I borrow American Psycho!!!" and they're like "no Claire, I didn't call you stop talking" and anyways they're acting like 2 year olds and I don't have my Christian Bale and I'm BORED!!!!!

Thanks for doing the bubble thing on my paper Emily!!!!

I've only lived in hicksville for 3 and 1/2 months and I can already feel myself slipping. I'm listening to COUNTRY!!!! Okay, so it's Rascal Flatts, which is more like pysuedo-country, but still, it's a slippery slope.

    Finals Suck

I love the Wallflowers. And Ben Folds.

Well, the Fray concert was basically the best thing EVER... we were like, 3 people back from the stage, oh, and Dave Welsh is one of the most attractive people I've ever seen, and surprisingly against type for me, but I guess if you have shaggy hair, cute glasses, major biceps and can play the guitar, I'm like "take me I'm yours".

Before the concert yesterday I got initiated and am now an official member of ZTA, so that's pretty cool. I really want to finish Scoop now too.

Glad to sleep in my own bed, but laughing that by winter break I will have been at home or in Portland for some reason or another all but one weekend. It's not that I'm homesick or anything like that, it's just that up here there's a lot more stuff to do. When you live in McMinnville, you learn to appreciate just how amazing Portland is. Esp. when you're chased by a meth addict on 3rd street, like what happened Friday night. People are freaky in Yamhill county.

I'm exciting for school this week, as it should be relatively no stress (no Politics, no Newspaper, skipping one period of French), and I'm coming home Wednesday morning, so I'll be home again the day after tomorrow, and then it's off to the Oregon/Oregon State Game and Barenaked Ladies!

So, downloaded ourtunes last week, and I love it. I got about 400 songs in a half hour, b/c of the shared network at Linfield. I just downloaded some of it b/c I heard they were good, plus, it's always fun to have new music. I have fallen love now with Snow Patrol***, Panic! at the Disco, Aqualung***, and James Blunt (besides You're Beautiful which makes me want to cut my ears off), too name a few. If and when you have the opprotunity to acquire this program, I highly recommend it.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Yum Yum.

This morning a girl from my French class was killed. There were 12 of us in the class, she was my partner for a month and a half. She was driving back from Vancouver and slammed into a pole around 4 am in Newberg. 2 hours earlier we were driving on the same road, and it was scary. She wasn't even drinking or anything. She didn't deserve this. I know I don't really deserve sympathy for this, I didn't know her that well, but she was just genuinely nice, and I'm in shock. I feel horrible for her roommate, and friends, and family, and teammates (she played basketball) and sorority sisters, they knew her much better than I did, but I still can't comprehend. On Thursday she was serving us bread during our French class (it was part of a meal we were having to go along with our unit0, and joking and laughing, and now she's dead. I can't believe it. She was exactly like us, a freshman, 18, her whole life ahead of her, 2 hours later and it could have been us. Please be careful when you drive at night. Please. Please.

The Dems got the Senate!!! You know what that means? That means that we have a left-winged Congress and a right-winged executive branch. It's just like during Reconstruction, when Andrew Jackson wanted one thing, but Congress wanted another, and so they just kept vetoing each other, and nothing got done, and eventually he got impeached! Not that I'm saying that Bush would get impeached, but one can dream I guess.... hmm, I'm such a history nerd...

On another note, I JUST GOT A TICKET TO THE FRAY CONCERT A WEEK FROM SATURDAY, AND I'M SO F***ING EXCITED!!!!! Emily, I know you're going too, so if you read this before you get my voicemail, give me a call!!!!! BAAAHHHHHHHH

So, Halloween party at the Delta house: um, interesting, and, I must admit, really fun. People are funny, esp. when they are dressed up as little bo peep, wasted off their ass and have a cane (true story- oh Liz).

I'm really bored because I forgot today was daylight savings, so I woke up an hour early and breakfast isn't open yet.

I have to go decorate the Delta house for our haunted house. Oh, the morning after, this should be fun, everyone's going to be so out of it!

I borrowed the first season of Laguna Beach from my neighbor, got addicted, and have done NO homework this weekend. Too bad I have to catch up 100 pages in my Mass Comm book and I have a test Thursday, smart Claire, smart. Emily, it's like your Buffy, but there's less of it, thank God.

    I'm off to eat, finally!

P.S.- THE BEAVERS BEAT USC!!!!!! I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED!!!!!! NO ONE ELSE CARES, BUT YAY!!!!!!

You know what I've decided? I really like Ryan Phillippe.

Yesterday was very relaxing (and very family-oriented, I'm noticing...), I like leisurely accomplishing nothing:

    -I woke up at 11:30
-Took a bath (mmmmm, no shower shoes)
-Had Chicken Noodle Soup for lunch
-Walked to the Bank/Pete's with my mom
-Went to Flags of our Fathers with my dad (which everyone should go see!!!!! *sigh, finally a Clint Eastwood movie that didn't disturb me, it probably should have, since it was about Iwo Jima, but mostly it was just really well done.)
-Came home, at dinner with the famdamily
-Watched the Heroes marathon ("Save the Cheerleader, Save the World", the cheerleader's named Claire, what does that mean?)
-Went to bed before 12 for the first time in 2 months (sleeping is my favorite hobby).

And I still have 2 days off!!!! Now I actually need to start working/doing my laundry, but at least it's at home! I'm actually more homesick here than at school, mostly because I really don't want to leave. My entire extended family is coming over tonight, so that may change things, but for now I'm enjoying it.

What should I be for Halloween???? I don't want to be an all-out slut, but I do have to go to a frat party, so can't go with cereal boxes strapped to my chest with knives coming out of them and fake blood (a "cereal"-killer, my mom's suggestion- I think not). Hmmm, dilemma. Also, does anyone have camo stuff I could borrow? Geez, sorority is taking over my life! I now have to go write "sisterhood appreciation" letters to 86 people. Goody.

Current Mood: AKA- not living with 70 people
